As parents we count the time spent in many areas of our children’s lives: practicing the piano, watching TV, playing video games, and exercising . . . all areas where we count by minutes and hours. By many studies, time spent in church attendance is critical to a child’s healthy development.

Okay, forget the studies. Just ask parents. Adults who grew up going to church, then took a break in early adulthood, often run to find a church as soon as they have children. Why? Because they sense what we know—God has something to say about how we live our lives. Parents understand it’s their responsibility to teach this to their kids, but most of us need some help too. At Vertical Church, we partner with parents to disciple our children.  The mission of Vertical Kids is to glorify God through discipling and equipping children and families.

What to expect your first time at Vertical Kids:

Parents need to be refilled.  We need 90 minutes to concentrate on what the Lord has to say about how we live.  We need time to worship Him, and we want our children to do the same—so ministry for all children, ages birth through fifth grade, takes place during all weekend services.

What we teach:

Vertical Church uses the Harvest Children's Curriculum which immerses kids and preschoolers in the gospel through every story, theological concept, and call to mission from Genesis to Revelation. Ultimately, the gospel message changes everything; heart transformation can only take place when a child experiences the gospel. Through Harvest Children's Curriculum, children will understand the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption.

What to expect in Vertical Kids:

Three classes with age-appropriate teaching and activities are held for Ages 0-2, Ages 3-5, and Grades 1-5. All Vertical Kids volunteers have been carefully trained and background checked.

Opening Activities

After children are checked-in, they head to their classrooms for warm-up and introductory activities. These activities are designed to introduce the Bible story and get children ready to learn.

Group Worship and Story

Every age group has a chance to worship God each week, with the aim of teaching children how to worship in spirit and in truth.  We also believe the Word of God should be taught boldly and correctly.  Each week the Bible story and connection to Jesus is presented in both video form and from teachers who open their Bibles and teach with authority,   We incorporate all we know about how children learn into how we teach the truth of Scripture.

Follow Up Activities

The remainder of ministry time (between 30-60 minutes depending on the age) is dedicated to a small group experience to follow up on the Bible teaching. For younger children, conversations and activities bring the Bible teaching to life in a hands-on and fun way.  As they mature, the small group questions move towards more personal application of the large group teaching.  Scripture memorization, prayer and a snack time are also included.
