Vertical Students Tonight — February 24, 2019
Sorry We’re a Little Late!
**We usually try to have our “Vertical Students Tonight” update sent out on Sunday mornings, so you know what’s coming that night at Vertical Students — however, we dropped the ball this week with Justin traveling. We’re sorry about that!
Last night, we jumped into week 3/8 in our series “Who Am I.”**
What We’re Teaching
Ephesians 2:1-10 is what some consider to be the most clear and complete summary of what the gospel means for us — we are saved by grace through faith.
Paul details our spiritual condition without Christ: DEAD in our trespasses and sins (v. 3). However, the good news of the gospel is that we WERE dead, BUT GOD made us alive.
We want students to grasp both how BAD our problem is without Christ, and ultimately to see Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection from the dead as the best possible news for us. We were saved ON purpose and FOR a purpose (v. 8-10).
Set aside a few minutes with your student this week and ask these questions:
Where do you see evil and brokenness in the world around you?
Where have you seen evil and sin in your own heart (share with them your sin as well)?
Read Ephesians 2:8-9 with your student. How does it feel to know that there’s nothing you can do to earn God’s love? It’s a gift we receive through Christ.
Read Ephesians 2:10. How do you think God wants to use our family to help the world? What can we do as a family to help bring healing to the brokenness we see?
